Healthy Tricks to Overcome December Blues

Healthy Tricks to Overcome December Blues

The Healthy Tricks to Overcome December Blues post was written with the intent to help people get into a better mood during this last month of the year.

Every year when the first rainy days become a considerable part of our lives, many of us start feeling a bit down. December comes into our lives to bring in all the holidays and happiness, but December also brings loneliness and heavy feelings for some. The gloomy weather and lack of sunshine can affect anyone, and sometimes it can be somewhat overwhelming. That condition is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder.

It could be a temporary condition and there are ways to overcome S.A.D.

Some of the best ways to deal with the winter blues are to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Take a walk in your neighborhood, or plan an outdoor activity with friends or family. If the weather isn’t cooperating, find a way to get some natural light indoors.

You can also try activities such as yoga and meditation to help you relax and de-stress. If you like going to the gym, do it more often than usual.

Connecting with others and staying active socially can be beneficial.

Reach out to family and friends to grab a cup of coffee, or invite them over for a movie night. Socialize as often as you can. Get out of your place and spend time with people you like.

Finally, don’t forget to take care of yourself.

Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and taking time to do something you enjoy. This is the fourth of our healthy tricks to overcome December blues but not less important than others.

  • Take Vitamin D. A lot of it actually.
Salmon, sardines, cheese, eggs, mushrooms, and milk are great sources of vitamin D.
  • Stay hydrated and drink a lot of water. That might sound funny, but water is the best tocsin cleanser. It can help you rinse out your bad mood.

Take a vacation if you can afford it.

Sometimes the change of scenery can help you overcome your problem. Visiting sunny destinations is highly recommended and just another one of the Healthy Tricks to Overcome December Blues.

Find a hobby

Occupy your thoughts with something you enjoy. Get creative and enjoy it. Distract yourself with something that brings you and feeling of achievement.

Adopt a pet. Animals feel our energy and try to “repair” it.

  • Take yourself and your pet for a walk. You both will benefit from it.
  • Avoid negative people, they might make you feel worse.
  • Make yourself active and repeat it every day. That’s the key to success.

These are just some of the tips that can help to improve your mood. If the conditions persist or get worse please consult your healthcare provider. If you like
